Abstract
(Background and Purpose) Architectural rendering images play a crucial role in facilitating communication between architects and clients, effectively conveying complex design ideas. Recent advancements in AI-based image generation technology have introduced new possibilities in architectural visualization. In response, this study aims to develop an automated visualization tool for building exterior based on a fine-tuned model using LLM-reinforced data. Through this tool, the study seeks to support image generation reflecting architects' styles and real-time rendering, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the visualization process and ultimately presenting designers with more diverse design possibilities. (Method) We developed a reinforcement data construction algorithm based on the Large Language Model (LLM), and constructed training datasets for renowned architects' styles using this algorithm. Then, using the Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) method, we built fine-tuned models specialized for architects' styles. We constructed approximately 300 datasets for each architect's style, and validated the performance of the total 11 fine-tuned models by comparing them with models based on manually constructed datasets from previous research. Additionally, we integrated these models with 3D architectural design modeling tools to build an automated visualization tool supporting real-time rendering. The developed tool supports the creation and utilization of models with various Levels of Detail (LoD) and provides a user-friendly interface. (Results) The results demonstrated that the reinforcement data construction algorithm using LLM efficiently built datasets. This method reduced the dataset construction time from approximately 40 hours to 3 hours per architect, while maintaining a consistent level of quality. Furthermore, through fine-tuning, the style reflection rate of the existing image generation AI models improved from 5.2% to 93.8%, and the project style reflection rate increased from 6.4% to 89.4%, enabling the creation of images that more accurately reflect the unique characteristics of each architect. The developed automated visualization tool showed the capability to process 3D models ranging from LoD 1 to LoD 3 and above, indicating its applicability throughout the entire design process, from initial conceptual design to detailed design phases. (Conclusions) This study confirmed the efficiency of the reinforcement data construction algorithm, the performance improvement of AI models through fine-tuning, and the usefulness of the automated visualization tool supporting various LoDs. The proposed tool is expected to enable users to perform visualization tasks more efficiently in architectural design, including idea exploration and real-time rendering. However, the study is limited by constructing models for only 11 architects' styles. Future research should secure training data for more architects' styles, continuously improve model performance, develop a more intuitive interface by introducing technologies like IP-Adapter, and conduct empirical studies to verify the tool's practicality and effectiveness in actual design settings.
