Abstract

(Background and Purpose) As metaverse platforms have recently emerged as a new arena for brand communication, the importance of interactive design centered on user engagement has become increasingly emphasized. In particular, user-centered design strategies that evoke immersion, realism, and emotional empathy play a key role in expanding brand experiences within the metaverse. Against this backdrop, the purpose of this study is to identify the interactive design elements that constitute user experiences in metaverse brand spaces, conduct statistical validation of these elements, and ultimately provide insights into interactive design strategies through case analysis of actual brand spaces. (Method) This study selected Vans World, an official brand space on the metaverse platform Roblox, as a representative case. After participants experienced this brand space, a survey was conducted with 221 users ranging in age from their teens to those over 50. The survey items were developed based on literature and case studies related to interactive design, and were composed of four major categories and twenty subcategories assessing both the importance and satisfaction of each item. The collected data were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) with SPSS and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with AMOS to derive the factor structure and verify the structural validity of the model. (Results) The results of the EFA revealed that the interactive design of metaverse brand spaces can be classified into five categories: physical experience, social interaction, physical immersion, psychological empathy, and interactivity. All factor loadings exceeded 0.5, and the cumulative variance explained was sufficient, confirming both internal consistency among items and the validity of the factor structure. Additionally, through the case analysis of Vans World, elements such as user interaction, immersive experience, and personalization features were effectively explained using the five design factors derived in this study, demonstrating the practical usefulness of these factors. (Conclusion) This study empirically analyzed how user-centered interactive design elements can be structured in the context of metaverse brand space design and proposed a directional framework for developing evaluation indicators. The five identified factors can serve as essential indicators for metaverse space design, user experience strategies, and brand communication planning. Moreover, the analytical framework has the potential to be expanded and applied across various brand cases and platform environments. This study not only provides a theoretical foundation for metaverse-based design and user experience research but also offers practical guidelines for professionals in establishing effective design strategies, thereby holding both academic and practical significance. Furthermore, with follow-up studies comparing additional cases and exploring differences between platforms, the analytical model proposed in this research can be further refined and expanded
