Abstract

(Background and Purpose) As life expectancy increases, the proportion of active seniors is rapidly increasing, highlighting the growing importance of continuing education support facilities for individuals aged 60 and over—a life stage often marked by declining physical and social functions. Such life transitions can lead to depression and lethargy, further widening socioeconomic disparities. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the impact of art museum public lounges on active seniors’ satisfaction, with user experience factors as a mediating variable, within the context of spatial lounge design. It further seeks to inform the design of rest areas in museums. (Method) Based on theoretical review and prior research, this study investigated museum public lounges, user experience factors, and the satisfaction of active seniors, deriving key characteristics as keywords. A research model and hypotheses were then developed. Following a preliminary survey, the main survey was conducted, and data were analyzed using simple mediation analysis (SPSS Process v4.2, Model 4) to verify accuracy and consistency. As a result, conclusions were drawn regarding the impact of museum public lounges on active senior satisfaction. Evaluation indicators were summarized, and a case study was selected for in-depth analysis. Ultimately, the study sought to guide the spatial design of public museum lounges. (Results) Analysis results showed that both the direct effect (β = 0.958, p <0.05) and total effect (β = 0.958, p <0.05) of the museum public lounge (X) on lounge satisfaction (Y) were statistically significant. Additionally, the effect of the museum public lounge (X) on user experience (M) (β = 0.956, p <0.05), as well as the effect of user experience (M) on lounge satisfaction (Y) (β = 0.677, p <0.05), were also significant. (Conclusions) This study empirically analyzed how museum public lounges affect active senior satisfaction, focusing on the mediating role of user experience factors. Results indicate that art museum lounges influence active seniors’ satisfaction and experiential immersion, depending on the quality of the environment, suggesting that museum lounges should serve purposes beyond relaxation and incorporate mediating factors such as user experience. It highlights the need to consider user experience factors in the relationship between museum lounges and senior satisfaction, and the findings are expected to have practical application.
