Abstract

(Background and Purpose) Our country is rapidly transitioning into a super-aging society with a low birth rate. Accordingly, the government is planning and executing policies related to senior residences, including the supply of public and private senior welfare housing. However, although research on welfare facilities-that is, support services, for senior welfare housing is well developed, research on the actual applicability of senior welfare housing and the residential environment from the perspective of elderly users is insufficient. Therefore, the aim of this study is to conduct a survey on the overall satisfaction of elderly people living in senior welfare housing with their living spaces and to derive directions for improvement. (Method) First, a literature review was conducted to derive the elements of the plan for senior welfare housing. Second, a survey and interview were conducted on the elderly living in senior welfare housing in Hongcheon and Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do. The survey was conducted by visiting in person, taking pictures, and analyzing the space. The interview survey analysis method was a quantitative and qualitative analysis method using SPSS. The survey period is May 10 to May 20, 2025, and the valid number of copies is 54. Finally, we will look into the improvements in the planning plan for senior housing space. (Results) First, the satisfaction level was high because most of the residents were single-person households, but it was found that improvements were needed in terms of location, lack of storage space, and space utilization. Second, most of the external space was narrow, so it was found that activation of community space that suited the characteristics of the elderly was necessary. Third, furniture as a space element was found to be a dissatisfactory factor, and it was found that the lack of storage space due to the narrow living space was the cause. Therefore, a plan to secure storage space is needed when planning the living space. In addition, as a facility element, it was found that many people were not aware of the use of the smart care system, so education and introduction of a smart system were needed. Fourth, among welfare facilities, health and health facilities were found to need to be activated by increasing the utilization rate of exercise facilities and programs that suited the characteristics of the elderly, and expanding living convenience facilities. (Conclusions) In terms of the spatial aspect of future senior welfare housing, planned supplementation of resident communities and resting spaces should be carried out in parallel with the activation of welfare facilities. In the future, research on senior welfare housing is expected to require research on complex types of rural and fishing villages and small cities, as well as residential and community facilities.
