Abstract
(Background and Purpose) In the context of rapidly evolving digital technologies, there has been a notable shift in brand communication strategies from a focus on product sales to an emphasis on experience-oriented approaches. In particular, brand experience spaces that combine narrative and interaction encourage users’ sensory, emotional, and cognitive immersion, thereby deepening their relationship with the brand. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of narrative interaction on brand loyalty, mediated by brand experience, within this evolving context. The present study focuses on offline experiential spaces, and it empirically analyzes the structural relationships among narrative interaction, brand experience, and brand loyalty to identify their effects on loyalty formation. (Method) Through literature review, a research model and hypotheses were developed, followed by quantitative verification through empirical analysis. Based on prior studies, the concepts and characteristics of the three variables were elucidated, and spatial design elements of brand spaces—such as lighting, color, materials, and circulation—were integrated as components of brand experience. A subsequent questionnaire survey was then conducted using the proposed model, and parallel mediation analysis was performed with SPSS 26.0 and PROCESS Macro. This process verified the causal structure through which narrative interaction leads to brand loyalty via the sensory, emotional, cognitive, and relational dimensions of brand experience. (Results) Subsequent to the implementation of the Baron and Kenny regression procedure, a series of p-values were determined to be statistically significant at the .001 level across all three stages of the procedure. A straightforward mediation analysis indicated that the independent variable, narrative interaction (X), exerted a substantial positive effect on the dependent variable, brand loyalty (Y) (β=.4473, p<.001). Furthermore, the mediating variable, brand experience (M), demonstrated a statistically significant mediating effect between narrative interaction and brand loyalty (β=.1209, p<.001). In summary, an enhancement of narrative interaction enhanced brand experience, which subsequently resulted in an increase in brand loyalty. This demonstrates that narrative interaction not only exerts a direct influence on brand loyalty and an indirect effect through brand experience, thereby confirming a partial mediation effect. (Conclusions) The study empirically identified the structural relationship through which narrative interaction affects brand loyalty via brand experience. The sub-factors of narrative interaction—reciprocity, immersion, and spatiality—significantly activated the sensory, emotional, cognitive, and relational dimensions of brand experience, which consequently led to attitudinal, behavioral, and word-of-mouth loyalty. Specifically, sensory and emotional experiences strengthened emotional attachment to the brand, while cognitive and relational experiences enhanced value perception and social sharing behavior. Ultimately, narrative interaction functions as a pivotal element that propels emotional immersion and cognitive interpretation beyond the confines of mere experiential components. This dynamic plays a pivotal role in fostering long-term consumer–brand loyalty. Accordingly, this study provides empirical evidence that lends support to the notion that narrative interaction within brand spaces is of significant importance.
