Abstract

Content-based language teaching method conducts language teaching with comprehensible, interesting, meaningful and purposeful contents. It considers a result of understanding content-based message as natural language acquisition. This study searches principles of content-based reading teaching for advanced learner and suggests organizing class and a model for class. Pre-reading process is a stage that activate learner's schema and knowledge precedent. This process operates schema using learner's knowledge precedent and make a learner prepare to grasp the contents completely. During reading process, students learn diverse reading ways according to Korean text types and practice speaking in various situation with a purpose of practical conduct. Also, they practice to collect materials for speaking through various printed matter, audio-visual materials, and internet and to organize them. During post-reading process, task-activity is conducted. Appropriate task-activity after reading make learner extend the knowledge from reading activity, which has following activities. First, it is writing activity related with contents of reading. Students organize writing with learning about composing contents and system of writing which are suitable for subject and purpose. A learner can widen his/her knowledge on the world through reading process like this. Moreover s/he can be a learner who has fluent and accurate Korean ability which is based on understanding contents. (Kyung Hee University)
