숙달도와 거주 경험에 따른 베트남인 한국어 학습자의 함축 이해

함축은 화자의 숨은 의도를 포함하기 때문에 일부 함축의 경우 모국어 화자에게도 이해가 쉽지 않으며, 특히 보편적인 해석이 불가능한 함축의 경우 제 2언어 학습자에게 이해가 어려울 것임을 쉽게 유추할 수 있다. 이 논문은 다양한 함축 가운데에서도 어떠한 유형의 함축이 학습자에게 이해가 어려운지, 숙달도와 거주 경험 유무에 따른 유형별 함축 이해는 어떻게 달라지는지 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. (1) 숙달도가 낮은 1학년 학습자와 숙달도가 높은 3, 4학년 학습자는 함축의 이해에 차이를 보이는가? 함축의 유형 중 어떤 함축의 이해에 있어서 차이가 나타나는가? (2) 숙달도가 높은 3, 4 학년 학습자의 경우 한국 거주 경험 유무에 따라 함축의 이해에 차이를 보이는가? 함축의 유형 중 어떤 함축의 이해에 있어서 차이가 나타나는가?본고는 기존의 함축 연구들이 격률의 준수 또는 위반의 관점에서 함축을 유형화함에 따른 한계점을 제시하고 문장이 실현되는 양상과 사회문화적 특수성을 고려하여 8개의 함축 유형을 제시하고 16개의 문항을 통해 학습자의 유형별 함축 이해를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 결과 고정성이 강한 고정 표현, 언급되지 않은 비판, 반어 표현 등은 숙달도가 높아짐에 따라 유의미한 이해의 향상을 보였다. 또한, 사회문화적 배경에 대한 지식을 요구하는 반어 표현, 사회문화적 함축 표현, 상위화용적 함축 표현에서 거주 경험 유무에 따른 유의미한 차이를 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
This paper examines which types of implicatures are particularly difficult for Vietnamese Korean language learners to understand and how their proficiency and residential experiences affect the level of understanding of specific types of implicatures. Research questions for this paper are as follows: (1) Is there a difference in the understanding of implicatures between freshmen Vietnamese Korean language students with low proficiency and more fluent junior and senior students? Among various types of implicatures, in which types do we see a difference in understanding? (2) Does the existence residential experience in Korea for more fluent junior and senior students impact their understanding of implicatures? Among various types of implicatures, in which types do we see a difference in understanding? While previous implicature studies were limited to categorizing implicatures according to compliance or flouting of maxims, this paper considers the process of sentence construction and unique socio-cultural factors to investigate the students’ understanding of eight types of implicatures through sixteen questions. The results of this paper indicate that advanced proficiency raises the level of meaningful understanding of fixed conventional expressions, implied criticism and ironic expressions. Moreover, residential experience provides the sociocultural background knowledge necessary to raise the level of meaningful understanding of ironic expression, sociocultural implicature and metapragmatic implicature.
