Abstract
Toni Morrison shows the severity of slavery in Beloved, illuminating the distorted maternal love of a black mother and the oppressed re-memories of the black community. The history of slavery has already been forgotten in modern society, but Morrison has made it possible to restore and remember it through the novel. In this way, Beloved is a novel that presents fundamental problems and causes of slavery. It is consistent with the eco-feminist view that women and nature are oppressed and that women’s oppression is related to the oppression of nature. Morrison works to organize and unravel the scars and traces of slavery that were inherent in the black community through the purification of Beloved, who was killed for his mother’s distorted love. Beloved transforms from a baby to a girl and then into a beautiful woman, and disappears from people’s sight. She eventually returned to a natural setting, the stream in the woods at 124 Bluestone, but she reminds the black community and people at 124 Bluestone of their rememories with nature and helps them heal the wounds caused by slavery. In this set of processes, Morrison is able to dismantle the boundaries of the world that have been divided into life and death, women and men, nature and human beings, black and white, and unloved and beloved. Furthermore, she is presenting the possibility of being reconciled through the newly loved (the beloved).
