‘-더-’ 의미의 문화적 접근

Abstract

Yun, Jung hwa. 2006. The cultural approach on the meaning of ‘-더-'. Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language, 31, 173～190. The purpose of this study is to determine the cultural meaning of ‘-더-'. Korean language learners can improve their language skills by understanding the Korean culture. ‘-더-’ is one of the most difficult grammatic endings[terminations]. Previous studies mainly focus on the grammatic function of ‘-더-'. This study aims to present the cultural and communicative situation of ‘-더-'. The research was done considering the concept of time and space similarity concerning the speaking situation: ‘-더-'. Several methods were used according to the idea of G. Lakoff's linguistics. As a result, the speaker uses ‘-더-’ more effectively to share the experience with the listener. This method has the advantage of arousing real folk memory. Thus, the listener can show sympathy after hearing ‘-더-’. The dealing of the study on ‘-더-’ can be put to practical use with various grammatic studies. This study will be finally useful when linked with Korean grammar and culture. (Yonsei University)
