The purpose of this study is to provide some principles and guidelines that are helpful in developing a writing textbook for intermediate learners. This study is designed to focus on how the writing proficiency in Korean of intermediate learners can be improved. The development of the writing textbook is progressed systematically. For this end, the theoretical backgrounds and characteristics of the textbook development are reviewed. In addition, some useful writing methods are given. This paper presents some systematic stages to develop a practical writing textbook. This study shows that systematic writing steps and a wide selection of practical writing texts have a positive impact on the improvement of the writing ability of language learners with significant improvement in the contents, structure, and fluency. The systematic steps turned out to be effective in improving the writing skills of intermediate leaners. By applying various writing principles and strategies such as brainstorming to the development of textbooks, the learners can enhance the overall communicative writing ability including discourse ability, and grammatical ability. In conclusion, this study suggests some guidelines and effectiveness of systematic steps in the development of writing textbooks.
