A Case Study on the Development and Revision of the Korean Language Curriculum for Academic Purposes: Focused on university program of KLI at Yonsei university

This study is to examine the process of the development and revision of the Korean language curriculum for academic purposes focusing on the University Program at KLI’s pre-entrance course. First, it will be mentioned the necessity of a Korean language curriculum for academic purposes in correlation to the increase in the number of students learning Korean for academic purposes. Next will be a literature review on the past research papers on Korean language curriculums for academic purposes after 2000. It will then be observed how the development of KLI’s curriculum has proceeded, what problems have arisen during its implementation, how those problems have been resolved, and how this curriculum has changed in the aspect of its level system, curriculum time frame and total hours, operation of elective classes, the ratio of Korean for college life and Korean for academic classes on the basis of textbooks, and various student-aid programs. Finally, the desirable direction of the pre-entrance Korean course for academic purposes will be suggested.
