문화예술교육 경험이 개인의 문화자본에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

본 연구는 학교가 계급 불평등을 완화하는 데 기여할 수 있다는 선행 연구들의 주장에 주목하여, 실제로 학교 안에서 수행되는 문화예술교육이 개인의 문화자본에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 확인하고자 했다. 이를 위해 2011년 전국의 19세 이상 성인 남녀 2000명을 대상으로 수집한 ‘문화자본에 대한 인식 및 실태조사’ 자료를 활용했고, 그중 문화예술교육 경험 여부와 주요 동기를 묻는 문항에 대해 일원배치분산분석과 다중회귀분석을 실시했다. 분석 결과, 학교 교과 중심의 문화예술교육 경험은 문화자본의 지식 측면에는 긍정적 영향을 미쳤으나, 문화자본의 소양이나 활동 측면에는 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타나 학교 안 문화예술교육은 개인의 문화 자본에 부분적으로 영향을 미친다는 점을 확인했다. 이 결과는 그동안 이론 위주의 지식 전달 방식으로 진행되어온 한국 공교육 내 문화예술교육의 특성을 반영한 결과로 해석되며, 따라서 문화예술교육을 통해 문화자본의 불균등한 축적을 해소하려면 문화예술교육을 통한 문화자본 획득의 구체적인 메커니즘을 파악하고 이를 공교육 제도 내에서 어떻게 수용하고 적용시킬 수 있을지에 대한 학문적․정책적 노력이 필요하다.
Abstract
This study aims to find out whether culture and art education in schools affects one’s cultural capital by focusing on the argument of preceding researches that school can reduce social inequality. For this study, the data collected for the nationwide survey on ‘Cultural Capital of Korean Society’(2011) was used, and One-way ANOVA and Multiple Regression Analysis were conducted on questions about experience in culture and art education. The result shows that while culture and art education based on school curriculum has a positive effect on cultural capital in aspect of cultural knowledge, it does not have significant effects on cultural capital in aspects of cultural attitude and activities. These outcomes can be understood as a consequence that reflects the characteristics of culture and art education within the public education of Korea, which has used the theory oriented method of conveying knowledge. Thus, in order to eliminate the unequal accumulation of cultural capital through culture and art education, more academic and political efforts should be made to figure out specific mechanism of cultural capital acquisition through culture and art education and to discuss how this could be adapted to public education system.
