Abstract
Andong(安東) is a city in the east and north of Gyeongsangbuk-do. It has served as a hub of Gyeongsangbuk-do since the Silla Dynasty. In particular, when Wang Geon fought with Gyeonhwon in this area, he won with the help of local people such as Kim Seon-pyeong(金宣平), Kwon Haeng(權幸), and Jang Gil(張吉) became the central city of the country and was designated as the Great Dohobu(大都護府;the provincial government office). During the second invasion of the Red Turban from China in 1361 (the 10th year of King Gongmin's reign), the enemy invaded the capital, Gaegyeong. In November of that year, the king took refuge in Andong with his servants. And I stayed in Andong until February of the following year. As a result, Andong continued its reputation as a city where kings and provisional governments were established, and it became a major area, especially in terms of military and cultural aspects. Since then, many scholars and writers from the region have been produced through the Goryeo and Choseon Dynasties, making Andong so famous as a center of education and learning that it is called "Churojihyang(鄒魯之鄕)." Famous figures from Andong during the Goryeo Dynasty include Kim Bang-kyung, Kwon Bo, Hong Kan, Kim Gu-yong, and Kwon Geun. Among them, Kim Bang-kyung was known as a military official, Kwon Bo was a scholar who spread Neo-Confucianism. In addition Hong Kan, Kim Gu-yong and Kwon Geun were renowned as poets. The pavilion, which represents Andong, is famous for its Guanpungnu(觀風樓), Yeonghoru(映湖樓), Bukru(北樓) in Andong Guesthouse, Chimbyeoknu(枕碧樓), and Samguijeong(三龜亭). These were the most representative attractions in Gyeongsangbuk-do to the extent that numerous poets, including the Goryeo Dynasty and the Joseon Dynasty, visited and wrote poems here. In particular, Yeonghoru, along with Yeongnamnu(嶺南樓) in Miryang and Chokseoknu(矗石樓) in Jinju, is known as a representative Pavilion of the Yeongnam region. The works, which were sung under the title of Yeonghoru, are good materials for the study of Korean pavilion literature and have literary historical significance. This paper paid attention to various aspects of Andong, especially the pavilion, mountain, river, and the Buddhist temple, which were revealed in the poetry of the Goryeo Dynasty, and examined how writers of the time recognized Andong and expressed it in their works. Moreover, recent literary studies have highlighted regional studies that discover and inform various materials and heritage of each region. As such, it is urgent and important to look at literary works dealing with Andong area.
