음악영재의 완벽주의와 지각된 사회적 지지가 연주불안에 미치는 영향

Perfectionism and Music Performance Anxiety: Understanding the Function of Social Support in Lessoning the Impact of Performance Pressure

초록

본 연구의 목적은 서울시 소재 예술고등학교와 대학부설 영재교육원에 재학 중인 음악영재를 대상으로 다차원적 완벽주의 성향이 연주불안에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고, 더불어 영재학생이 부모, 동료, 음악전공강사와 같은 유의미한 타인으로부터 지각하는 사회적 지지가 이들의 관계를 조절하는지 확인하는데 있다. 이를 위해 서양음악과 한국음악 작곡 전공을 제외한 연주 전공 고등학생 401명을 대상으로 다차원적 완벽주의와 연주불안, 지각된 사회적 지지를 측정하였다. 연구결과, 다차원적 완벽주의의 하위유형 중 자기지향 완벽주의는 연주불안을 유의하게 감소시키는 긍정적인 요소로 밝혀졌다. 반면, 사회부과적 완벽주의는 연주불안을 높이는 부정적인 요인으로 확인되었다. 완벽주의와 연주불안의 관계에서 지각된 사회적 지지의 조절효과 검증을 위해 위계적 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 사회적 지지의 하위요인 모두 연주불안을 유의하게 낮추었다. 조절효과 검증 결과, 세 가지 요인 중 전공강사의 지지만이 자기지향 완벽주의와 연주불안을 유의하게 조절하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 음악영재의 완벽주의 성향에 따라 연주불안에 각기 다른 영향을 미치며, 지각된 사회적 지지가 연주불안을 완화하는 요인임을 확인하였다. 나아가 사회적 지지의 세 가지 유형 중, 전공강사의 지지가 고등학생 음악영재에게서 나타나는 완벽주의와 연주불안의 관계를 완충시키는 중요한 요인임을 확인하였다는 점에서 본 연구의 의의가 있다.

Abstract

This study examined gifted students in music to identify how multi-dimensional perfectionism tendencies influence music performance anxiety. Moreover, the research verifies whether social support, which is perceived by gifted students from parents, peers and instructors, impacts the effects of perfectionism. The study targeted 401 students attending two arts high schools in Seoul and a national institution for the gifted in art. The participants major in instrumental and vocal music performance. The study outcomes show that self-oriented perfectionism serves results in positive outcomes that significantly reduce music performance anxiety, whereas socially prescribed perfectionism negatively impacts the students and increases music performance anxiety. The hierarchical regression analysis measured the effects of perceived social support from parents, peers and instructors and revealed such perceived support to significantly and directly reduce music performance anxiety. However, only support from instructors significantly control self-oriented perfectionism and music performance anxiety. This study contributes to studies of performance anxiety by taking a multi-dimensional approach to measuring the impact of perfectionism on young performers. In addition, social support appears to be a primary factor in mitigating music performance anxiety.
