Abstract

The purpose of this study was exploring the values of reading megacognition as toolsfor identifying gifted students in languages. For this purpose, this study sampled 301students, which consisted of generan students, gifted students in languages, and giftedstudents in math and sciences. MARSI(Metacognitive Awards of Reading StrategiesInventory) by Mokhari & Rechard(2002) was implemented to these students. The results showed that Gifted students in languages were superior to gifted studentsin math and sciences, as well as to general students, in terms of reading metacognition. When these three groups were compared in three sub-areas of reading metacognitive, whice are glabal reading strategies, problem solving strategies, and support readingstrategies, gifted students in languages were better than general students in all threeareas. On the other hand, gifted students in language were better than gifted students inmath and sciences in two areas of problem solving strategies and support readingstrategies, but not in the area of glabal reading strategies. This implies that measuring reading metacognition can be a valid method toidentifying gifted students in languages.
