심적 회계(mental accounting)는 행동경제학(behavioral economics)의 중요한 하위 개념으로 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 심적 회계는 가계의 많은 경제행동을 잘 설명해 주지만 심적 회계에 관한 실증 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구는 가계 유형별 소득과 비목별 소비지출의 관계를 분석함으로써 가계의 소비지출행동에서 심적 회계가 존재하는 지를 검증하고, 가계 소득계층에 따른 심적 회계의 양상을 고찰하고자 한다. 실증분석을 위해 통계청 2007년 가계조사자료를 사용하였으며 다중회귀분석과 Chow test를 통해 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 가계 유형별 소득이 비목별 소비지출에 미치는 영향의 구조적 특성이 서로 다르다. 둘째, 가계 유형별 소득이 비목별 소비지출에 미치는 영향력의 크기가 서로 다르다. 셋째, 소득계층에 따라 가계 유형별 소득이 비목별 소비지출에 미치는 영향의 구조적 특성이 서로 다르다. 넷째, 소득계층별 가계 유형별 소득이 비목별 소비지출에 미치는 영향력의 크기가 서로 다르다. 위와 같은 연구 결과를 통해 가계는 소비지출을 할 때 심적 회계를 하고 있으며 심적 회계의 양상은 소득계층에 따라 달리 나타난다는 결론을 도출하였다.
Abstract
It is experimentally proved that mental accounting explains a lot of economic phenomena much better than traditional economics theories. The purpose of this study is to make an empirical study of the existence of mental accounting in household consumption expenditures, by analyzing the impacts of different types of household income on the consumption expenditure according to household income classes. The data used in this study is the raw data of Korea 2007 Family Income and Expenditure Survey. 46,259 samples are selected, and finally included in the empirical analysis. The results are as follows: First, Korean household does mental accounting in the consumption expenditures. Different types of household income influences types of consumption expenditures differently both in structure and significance. Second, households from different income classes do mental accounting differently. Households from all three income classes do mental accounting.
