본 연구에서는 한미FTA의 지적재산권 협상이 의약품 분야에 미치는 영향을 계산하기 위한 기초적인 분석으로 우리나라 제약회사들의 주 생산품인 복제약의 시장점유율을 추정하였다. 분석 결과에 의하면 한국 의약품 시장에서 복제약은 신약의 특허가 만료되자마자 출시되어 단기간에 상당한 수준의 시장 점유율을 차지하는 것으로 나타나고 있다. 복제약 시장점유율함수를 구하기 위해 로지스틱함수를 고려하였으며, 수치최적화(numerical optimization)를 이용한 비선형최소자승법으로 추정한 결과 시장 점유율 자료와 매우 근접한 함수를 추정할 수 있었다. 추정결과에 의하면, 장기적으로 복제약들은 평균적으로 53% 수준의 시장점유율에 수렴하게 됨을 발견하였다. 이 결과는 한미FTA 협상 결과에 따른 특허존속기간 연장의 경제적 효과를 정확하게 추정하기 위한 기초자료가 될 것이다.
Abstract
This paper estimates the market share function of the generic drugs in Korean pharmaceutical market. The generic drugs are taking over the market of the original brand medicines very quickly after patent expiration. We used IMS data to confirm how quick these generics take over the existing market. In particular logistic function and nonlinear least square method with numerical optimization method are used to get the exact functional form. We found that our estimated function fits the real data very well. After 5 ~6 years, the market share tends to converge to 53% of the original market.
