장르의 전형성과 대학 글쓰기 교육의 한 방향

Abstract

This paper studies the idea of genre, and based on this study, it proposes an education on the typicality of genre as a direction for writing education in university. When it comes to writing education in university, diverse directions of writing education are possible depending on whether it is a major or an elective and according to specific university’s inclinations. Genre is a socially practical act rather than a type of text. The reason is that genre is something that was formed through the sharing between members of a specific community with a common topic of discussion, and such knowledge of genre in turn influences the writings of its individual members. The main reason behind the formation of genre is communicative purpose. A university freshman is not familiar with the communicative methods of educational community, even the specific educational community that he belongs to, as well as the communicative methods of diverse social communities. Also, the reality is that not only are a considerable number of professors not of writing education major, but that they hardly have writing experiences outside their own educational communities. In this paper, the writer proposes education on typicality with the materialization of existing genre as the first goal in such university writing environment. Also, it proposes that the type of genre that will be taught be selected in consideration of the university’s educational goals and that a model of each genre be extracted through prototypical example in order to achieve an effective education on typicality.
