Abstract

The object of this study is to confirm practical effect of peer feedback activities by studying aspects of writer’s responding behavior on peer feedback and practical reflections appealed in revised draft. Especially, the difference in writer’s acceptance ratio of feedback, acceptance rate on revised draft, rise in quality of revised draft depending on the type of peer feedback are explored. The results of studying aspects of acceptance of 40 college student writers on 836 feedbacks provided by peer. First, college student writers’ acceptance ratio of peer feedback was 65.6%(514). They rated validity of peer feedback higher than experts and displayed a tendency to accept improper feedback as well. Second, 64.2%(330) of peer feedbacks accepted by writers, only 39.2% of feedbacks originally provided were actually reflected to revised draft. They failed to reflect feedback for a variety of reasons. Third, quality of revised draft under peer feedback is 0.88 up very slightly overall. and ‘system of writing structure’ rather fell 0.29. Fourth, acceptance ratio and reflection rate of feedback referring partial content and expression is higher than feedback referring overall organization and content. However quality of writing has not greatly improved due to frequent occurrence of problem on organization of whole writing in process of editing part of writing. Only ‘subject’ related feedback requiring of rewriting whole writing, ‘content validation’ related feedback which peer and writer mutual contentiously exchanged opinions, ‘expression’ related feedback which reflection of relevant feedback is not linked to other field of writing slightly improved quality of writing. This result suggests that peer feedback activity has no practical effect in improving writing of students. This study suggests of carrying out peer tutoring activity by group instead of peer feedback activity, carrying out not only education for feedback provider (peer) suggested before but education for feedback acceptor (writer) in case of carrying out peer feedback activity.
