초록

기원전 1세기의 역사가 디오도로스(40.3.2)는 이집트 원주민의 공격을 받아 다나오스, 모세가 이집트로부터 같은 때에 쫓겨났다고 기록하고 있다. 그의 기록은 두 사람이 쫓겨난 힉소스임을 강하게 시사하고 있다. 이 논문의 목표는 한편으론 성서, 다른 한편으론 다나오스와 관련된 고대 그리스의 문헌사료를 연계하여 모세의 출애굽 연대를 제시해보는 데에 있다. 언제 모세가 이집트를 탈출하였느냐에 관해 『성서』는 서로 다른 연대를 제공한다. 「탈출기」 제1-2장에 근거한 기원전 13세기설, 「열왕기 상」 제6장에 근거한 기원전 15세기설, 「사도행전」 13:17-21에 근거한 16세기 설이 있다. 그런데 「사도행전」에서 바울로의 16세기설은 「판관기」나 「사무엘서」 같은 구약성서 경전들의 지지를 받고 있다. 기원후 1세기 유다인 사제출신 역사가 요세푸스(Contra Apionem, I.26, §§230-23; I.31, §§279-280)를 통해 모세가 파라오 테트모세 치세에 축출된 힉소스임을 살펴보고, 마네토의 두 단편(「단편」 50, from Josephus, Contra Apionem, i.15, §§94-95; 「단편」 53 (a), from Syncellus, according to Eusebius)에 따르면 요세푸스가 말하는 파라오 테트모세가 파라오 아모세(『옥스퍼드 고대이집트사』(2000), 1550-1525년)임을 제시하려 한다. 에파포스(힉소스 파라오 아포피스로 여겨진다)를 다나오스의 증조부이자 파라오로서 기록하고 있는 아폴로도로스(2.1.4), 스파르타 왕가(다나오스의 8대손 헤라클레스가 그 국조이다)와 유다인은 ‘아브라함의 후예’라는 구약성서 『마카베오 상』(12:19-23), 다나오스의 도래를 기원전 1511년으로 기록한 『파로스 연대기(Marmor Parium)』―이러한 문헌기록은, 힉소스는 여러 민족으로 구성되었지만 서부 셈족(페니키아인과 유다인)이 주류이고 그들이 아바리스로부터 축출된 시기는 기원전 1530년경이라는 (힉소스의 수도 아바리스에 대한) 최근의 고고학적 연구결과와 잘 맞아 떨어진다.

Abstract

Diodorus(40.3.2) wrote that Danaus and Moses were expelled from Egypt by the natives of Egypt, which suggests that the two men were the expelled Hyksos. This article aims to propose the Exodus’ date by connecting the Bible with the ancient Greek documentaries relating to Danaus. The Bible suggests different dates for Moses’ Exodus: the date of the 13th-century based on Exodus 1:8-11, the mid 15th-century based on 1 Kings 6:1-2, and the 1540’s based on Acts 13:17-21. The date of 1540’s is supported by Judges, 1 Samuel, and so on in the Old Testament. Josephus, the Jewish historian of the first century A.D., says that Moses was the leader of the Hyksos who were expelled by Pharaoh Tethmosis (Contra Apionem, I.26, §§230-23; I.31, §§279-280). According to two fragments (Fragment 50, from Josephus, Contra Apionem, i.15, §§94-95; Fragment 53a, from Syncellus, according to Eusebius), Tethmosis was Pharaoh Amosis, the first king in the 18th dynasty. According to The Oxford History of Ancient Egypt (2000), “the conquest of Avaris can be dated much more closely, between years 18 and 22 of Ahmose(Amosis), 1532-1528 BC.”Diodorus suggests that Diodorus and Moses were the leaders of the aliens expelled from Egypt in the same period. Apollodorus(2.1.4) mentions Epaphus(considered as Apophis, king of the Hyksos) as Danaus’ great-grand father and the king of Egypt. Marmor Parium says that Danaus sailed from Egypt to Greece in 1511/10 BC. Greek documents mentioned above suggest that both Moses and Danaus were contemporary leaders of the Hyksos who were expelled from Egypt in the latter half of the 16th century B.C.
