Abstract
This paper demonstrates how Aeneias legend was formed and spread in the multiple connection of Sicily, Etruria, and Rome. Greek writers created the various legends indicating that Rome was derived by Greek immigrants, or Trojan refugees. Among them, what the Romans adopted was the idea of Trojan derivation. After dissolving the Latin League in 338 B.C, the Romans established Aeneias legend which was favourable to Rome and the cities of Latium. Rome did not regard the Trojan as the group symbolizing adversary and resistance against the Greeks. This is because Rome never considered the Trojan Greeks' political enemy. After 338 B.C., Rome aimed at Magna Graecia and Greek World. At the same time, they utilized the Aeneias tradition to bring about the close bond with the Greeks and the inhabitants of Asia Minor. Revealing the close connection between them and the Greeks intentionally, Rome initiated to join with the rich cultural heritage of the Greeks. The authority of Augustus was also based on the divinity of Iulian family which traced back to Aeneias. Augustus began to combine the Aeneias tradition with the Romulus tale. He developed the fresh national myth to gain the legitimacy on the new system through this process. Finally, Aeneias legend became the new myth in Augustan Forum, Mars temple, and Ara Pacis.
