Abstract
Humanitas is a universal idea that has been indispensible in human education. Humanitas could also be seen as an imperial idea. It served as an effective tool to justify the expansion of the Roman Empire. In materialistic aspects such as Roman architecture and the measurement, the human body was taken as the basic scale to achieve the ideal of beauty and perfection. In spite of its imperialistic nature, I believe that humanitas is basically a universal idea. Subcategories of humanitas such as justice, equality and goodness, are still taken for essential virtues transcending time and space.
