학문 목적 한국어 학습자의 L1, L2 쓰기 불안과 학업 성취도의 관계- 중급 수준의 한국어 학습자를 대상으로
Writing Anxiety in L1 and L2 of Korean for Academic Purpose learners and its correlation with their academic performance : with a focus on intermediate level learners

이 연구의 목적은 학문 목적 한국어 학습자가 느끼는 제1언어와 제2언어로서의 한국어 쓰기 불안 요인을 분석하여 둘의 관계와 학업 성취도에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 학문 목적 한국어 학습자 55명을 대상으로 Daly & Miller(1975)가 개발한 쓰기 불안 측정 도구(WAT: Write Apprehension Test)의 26개 문항에 Cheng(1998)의 2개 문항을 추가하여 총 28개 문항을 사용해 제1언어와 제2언어로서의 한국어 쓰기 불안을 조사했다. (1) 그 결과 L2 쓰기 불안 요인으로는 ‘자신감 부족’, ‘공유에 대한 비선호’, ‘쓰기에 대한 비선호’, ‘표현에 대한 거부감’, ‘쓰기에 대한 두려움’, ‘쓰기에 대한 부정적 인식’, ‘평가에 대한 두려움’의 일곱 개 요인이 추출되었다. 또한 L1 쓰기 불안 요인으로는 ‘표현과 공유에 대한 비선호’, ‘쓰기에 대한 두려움’, ‘자신감 부족’, ‘쓰기에 대한 비선호’, ‘내용 부족’의 다섯 개 요인이 추출되었다. (2) L1, L2 쓰기 불안의 상관관계를 분석한 결과 L1과 L2 쓰기 불안 사이에 정적으로 유의미한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. (3) 마지막으로 L1, L2 쓰기 불안과 학업 성취도의 상관관계를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 L2 쓰기 불안과 학업 성취도는 부적인 상관관계를 보였고, L1과 학업 성취도는 유의미한 결과가 나타나지 않았다. 이를 통해 L1에 대한 쓰기 불안은 L2 쓰기 불안에 영향을 미치지만 L1 쓰기 불안이 L2로 학업을 하는 데에 유의미한 영향을 미치지는 않는다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이 연구는 제2언어로 한국어를 학습하는 학습자들의 L1과 L2 쓰기 불안을 함께 측정하여 비교한 연구이다. 이 연구의 결과가 한국어 학습자들의 L1, L2 불안 특성 파악과 학업 성취도 향상에 도움이 될 수 있을 것이라고 본다.
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyze factors of anxiety felt in L1 and L2 writing by learners of Korean for Academic Purposes, and to verify its correlation with academic performance. In order to do this we investigated 55 students of Korean for academic purposes using the anxiety measurement test (WAT: Writing Apprehension Test) developed by Daly &Miller (1975) and integrated with two additional items from Cheng (1998) for a total of 26 test items. As result, we obtained 7 factors for anxiety in L2writing, namely “lack of confidence, “unwillingness to sharing”, “unwillingness to write”, “repulsion toward expressions”, “fear of writing”, “negative perception of writing”, and “fear of assessment”. We also extracted 5 factors related to anxiety in L1 writing: “unwillingness to share and express their thoughts”, “fear of writing”, “lack of confidence”, “unwillingness to write” and “lack of content. Analysis showed that a meaningful correlation exists between anxiety in L1 and L2writing. Lastly, we investigated also the correlation between anxiety in L1 and L2 writing and academic performance. As result, we discovered that a negative correlation exists between anxiety when writing in Korean as a foreign language and academic performance and this does not represent a meaningful result. Therefore, we can say that anxiety in L1 writing influences anxiety in L2 writing, but both they do not affect academic performance. This study investigates and compares writing anxiety in both L1 and L2 students of Korean as a second language. Results help understanding characteristics of writing anxiety in L1 and L2 and how this can be used to improve academic performance.
