초록

This study explores the ethical implications of affect, which is a cultural theory rooted in Spinoza's philosophy. Spinoza argued for a shift from passive to active affect, leading to a life free from bondage. Cultural studies have extensively investigated affect's interaction between body and mind, with Spinoza's affect concept as its foundation. Spinoza's theory of emotions has been revisited by cultural researchers, but its analysis in literary works remains challenging. This study aims to examine emotions through the reading of Never Let Me Go, confirming Spinoza's claim that active affect leads to freedom from bondage and submission. The ethical fulfillment of affect is intertwined with their workings, which cultural theorists view as ideological and political. By analyzing this, the study considers ethical pursuits and critiques the use of cloned humans as a means to human ends. The study is significant as it seeks to approach literary analysis using affect concepts from cultural theory and Spinoza's philosophy.
