초록
This article aims to explore how the climate crisis and ecological discourse have been represented in children's literature. Adults who view children and childhood as embodying purity and innocence have often regarded children as passive observers or listeners, rather than encouraging their active thinking or sense of agency. This article will examine how the child protagonists develop from quiet observers or listeners into future savors and then activists. Burningham’s Oi! Get Off Our Train shows how animals have suffered from environmental destruction. Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax tells the story of Onceler who represents ‘capitalism’ itself and has significant responsibility for the destruction of forests and nature. In these books, protagonists are just observers or listeners. Lindstrom’s WE ARE Water PROTECTORS deals with a true story related to environmental activism. In this book, the girl/“I” works as an active participant against environmental destruction.
