A Study on the Rhythm of Cuban Music and K-POP Application Cases-Focusing on the Study of Afro Cuban Rhythm and New Jeans's Album

This paper analyzed the rhythm of Cuban music from the perspective of structural form and studied cases and methods applied to K-POP music. The purpose of this study is to analyze cases where Cuban rhythms are applied to K-POP music and suggest rhythm arrangement methods to composers, arrangers, performers, and producers who want to apply Latin rhythms to popular music. The research method was to analyze the rhythm of Cuban music from the perspective of structural form and study how this structure was applied to the music of K-POP artist New Jeans. As a result of the research, the rhythms of Cuban music, Sonclave, Tumbao, and Mozambique, were applied to five songs by New Jeans. The sound source was expressed using cowbells, claves, drums, and synths, and was arranged with the role of the clave, which is the central rhythm that leads the overall music, and the additional rhythm that decorates it.
