Abstract
This study deals with mothers, special case of ‘others’ in choices made for others research. Mothers are different from ordinary others because they are making choices for their children whom they feel extremely close and responsible. Also, they go through radical transition from established consumers who have been consumers for a long time to new consumers who have to purchase new products with new standards and a new process. To understand these important consumers, the present study focuses on emotions felt during purchase. More specifically, guilt and sense of control were introduced and investigated how these two emotions influence PAD(Pleasure-Arousal-Dominance). The age of children was also taken into account. Respondent pool of one of the biggest internet research companies was used and total 400 responses were gathered and used for analysis. the results show that mothers feel less guilt when they purchase for their children compared to when they purchase for themselves. Also, the less they feel guilt, the more pleasure, arousal, and dominance they feel during purchase. However, sense of control was not different in case of purchase for children and purchase for themselves. Age of children does not have any effect on the sense of control mothers feel. The results are expected to give much implications for both practitioners and researchers.
