본 논문은 클로드 시몽의 작품세계에 두드러지게 나타나는 여체(女體) 및 성행위 묘사의 양적‧질적 차별성에 주목하고 있다. 시몽의 대부분의 작품들에서 서너 갈래의 어렴풋한 이야기들이 뚜렷한 줄거리 없이 수시로 교차하는데, 그 중의 한 갈래에 대개는 남‧여의 성행위가 포함되어 있다. 그리고 거기에 수반되는 여체 및 성행위의 묘사가 지극히 세부적일 뿐만 아니라―학술 논문에서 다루기가 아주 민망할 정도로―적나라하기까지 하다. 본 논문은 우선 그 같은 독특한 서술 양상이 작가 자신의 생체험에 입각한 ‘진솔한’ 글쓰기의 욕구에서 비롯된 것이라는 관점에서 출발한다. 사실 시몽은 문명사회에 확립된 온갖 윤리적 규범을 권력관계의 부조리한 산물로 인식하는 가운데, 서사 일변도의 관행적 소설 또한―본의든 아니든―그 같은 부조리의 확대재생산에 가담하고 있다고 본다. 그 결과 그의 글쓰기는 허구적인 사태들을 이야기하는 것이 아니라 생체험의 기억과 거기에 수반되는 각양각색의 연상작용을 있는 그대로 ‘보여주는’, 묘사 절대 우위의 양상을 띠고 있다. 위와 같은 인식의 연장선상에서 본 논문은 시몽의 작품들에 나타나는 여성상을 ‘폐허’와 ‘생성’의 대립구도 아래 고찰한 다음, 그것을 한편으로는 남‧여 성차(性差)에 따르는 갈등 양상과, 다른 한편으로는 문명세계 전반에 걸치는 부조리의 악순환과 연계시켜 재조명하고 있다. 그리고 작가가 평소에 메시지 부재의 예술지상주의를 표방했던 것과 달리, 문명사회의 갖은 부조리를 독자적인 ‘언어예술’을 통해 ‘보여주는’ 양상의 온건한 현실참여성이 그의 작품들에 두루 내재해 있다는 점을 밝히고 있다.
Abstract
As is well known, the works of C. Simon, winner of the Nobel Literature Prize in 1985, are very unprecedented in method of description and its contents. First, he skips many kinds of well-established writing rules. Second, there is no obvious plot in his narration. And it has a great part of description compared to narration. Third, the contents of description has characteristic of autobiography to be called as a portraits of remembrance. Or this study notes another unprecedented point, which is quantitative and qualitative differentiation in describing female bodies and sexual acts appeared in his works frequently. First of all, there are several stories without apparent outline and one of the stories is about sexual acts between man and woman. Besides its description is very detailed and naked-not to treat in in this paper. Why did he insist to write such like this? Even he confessed writing is laborieux work, he concentrated to describe female bodies and sexual acts. Moreover, why did he carry out making himself naked although his works have characteristic of autobiography? Can it be called as the art for art principle of an absence of message? With this question, seeking the clue to the question with the image of woman revealed in descriptions of female bodies and sexual acts is the topic of this thesis. For this, I am going to mention foundation of C. Simon’s writing(II) first, and considering the image of woman in his works with the opposite composition between Ruins(III) and Creation(IV). And then, relating the conclusion with sexual difference(IV) and vicious cycle of irrationality(V), I will shed new light on it generally.
