Abstract
Disciple of 18th century ideologues, Stendhal knew the importance of understanding the human heart to be happy. By writing the immortal work with the beautiful sublime subject, he wanted to acquire the reputation of the greatest French poet. He is interested in the Italian assassination as the beautiful subject that can help to understand the human heart. He tries to write a beautiful book on the praise of the assassination. For Stendhal, Italy is a delicious country of happiness and love. Like Mina de Vangel who exposes extreme energy by firing a pistol at her chest and committing suicide because she is not satisfied with real life, at the time of the French Revolution and the Restoration, in 19th century French society where too advanced civilization withers souls, Stendhal is interested in Italy, land of revenge and murder. At the age of four, Stendhal intended to kill for the first time. At seven, he considers himself a virtual murderer of his mother’s death. At ten, he is happy to hear the king’s murder. Then In revolt against his father, he falls in the desire to murder father. At thirteen, he fights against his friend. The duel and the desire for murder follow one another in his life. Stendhal sees them as an act of courage and honor. At Stendhal, the praise for the assassination is based on Italian politico-cultural considerations. The brigand who shows an attraction for criminal energy against despotism which suppresses freedom, is considered as a model of courage and honor even if he commits numerous assassinations. In a civilized era, civilization has prohibited assassination. Yet in Italy, country of freedom, assassination is the subject of praise. Stendhal considers love and revenge, the murder of the mistress, the murder of the king, the parricide as an expression of energy, passion and honor. This is the object of idealization.
