초록

The purpose of this article is to analyze 'pause and Ananyev's tale' in Chekhov's novel Lights (1888) upon the basis of Narrative Structure. It is quite important to find out how his aesthetic world was performed in his later novel Lights. The Static Compositions in the text of Lights are as follows. I. Ananyev's tale II. Argument between Ananyev and Shtenberg III. Narrator's opinion The Static Compositions can be arranged in order with Dynamic Variant. III ‐ II ‐ I ‐ II ‐ III In the Narrative Structure, Ananyev's tale has played the most important role among them. Chekhov puts pauses three times into Ananyev's tale. They are as follows. (7, 131). Each pause has caused the readers to come back in the real time and space (хронотоп). In other words, each pause performs a part of the Oneness of time and space(хронотоп) as well as the Unity of the various elements in Lights. Therefore, it would be considered that the 'pause and Ananyev's tale' in Lights represents the relations between the 'Idea and Reality'. By means of this artistic technique, author tries to overcome the distance between the 'Idea and Reality' in the life. In his novel, consequently, Chekhov has recognized the relations between the 'Idea and Reality' as a means of criticizing the Russian pessimism of the 19th century.

Abstract

By means of this artistic technique, author tries to overcome the distance between the 'Idea and Reality' in the life. In his novel, consequently, Chekhov has recognized the relations between the 'Idea and Reality' as a means of criticizing the Russian pessimism of the 19th century.
