초록
정체성(identity)이라는 용어는 그동안 학문적 관점이라기보다는 오히려 일상용어로 빈번하게 사용되어 왔었다. 그런데 왜 최근 들어 ‘정체성(正體性)’이라는 표현이 사회적 용어 이상의 중요한 문제로 부각되고 있는가? 실제로 오늘날 다양한 사회현상을 분석하고 진단하는데 있어서 빠질 수 없는 중심문제가 되고 있다. 정체성의 본질은 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 형성되고 지속되는 성질을 가지고 있을 뿐만 아니라 정체성을 통해 문화에 대한 신념을 갖게 되고, 집단이 갖고 있는 삶에 대한 동기, 열망, 계획을 갖는 근거가 되기 때문에 집단의 성격이 잘 드러나고 나아가 역사적으로 정의되는 특성을 갖고 있는 것이다. 세계화가 다양한 민족과 국가의 정체성에 심대한 영향을 주고 있는 것이 사실이다. 따라서 역사적으로 단일 민족의 문화적 지형을 크게 흔들면서 기존의 우리 문화적 정체성에 혼란과 위기를 초래하고 있다. 특히 약소국가의 문화정체성 보호문제는 정책적으로 세심한 배려가 필요한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 문화정체성 본질형성에 관한 부분을 고찰하였다.
Abstract
This paper attempted to point out the tendencies of the ages, social interchanges and national identities as the issues leading to the formation of the cultural identities. "Every nation which lives in the contemporary age is a mixed composition." Identity of a nation was not be fixed in its beginning, but be formed in the long making process. The identity based on nations, classes and races became to be undergone changes by variations of social structures and systems. Social life styles, global marketability, world travels and multi-media systems connecting to inter-continental world made to remove the ideological limitations of particular places, history and traditions of national states. Cultural mixtures and intercourses are to be accelerated rapidly in our days. Our regional ideas cannot be completely parted from other regions, and not be called no more the non-mixed regional identity. We are now living without knowing our mixed social life. Our current life style became diverse, and so asks the unspecialized cultural identities.
