Abstract

This paper tried to build up the foundations for inspiring identity of 'Culture' which have been agreed as a subject of conversation by the most of intellectuals in the global level. I attempted at first to grasp firmly a definition and character of the cultural identity, and then to suggest necessary conditions of establishing its identity in order to get rid of a dangerous possibility of 'the clash of civilizations' foreseen by a worldwide well-known critic of civilizations, Samuel Huntington. We have our unique natural and social environments with cultural diversities and aesthetic values different from other nations. The cultural achievements and inheritances are our national pride and resources. We should keep, develop and let to know the excellent superiority of our cultural inheritances to the world. It is urgently needed a new establishment of cultural identity for our Korean people in this competitive societies of globalization. The self-awakening of cultural identity should be emphasized as the tasks of building up national identity of culture. We should continue to consolidate our national cultural identity for developing the creative and democratic cultures through open-minded acceptance of other diverse cultures.
