이 글에서 주목하고자 하는 것은 김훈의 역사소설에 나타난 역사 변용의 원리이다. 김훈의 역사소설에는 영토적인 국가 통치로부터 배제되면서 동시에 이탈하는 탈영토적 인물들이 등장한다. 작가는 이들의 유목적 사유가 역사 변용의 가능성을 내포하고 있음을 보여준다. 또한 이러한 피지배자의 통제 불가능성은 바로 기록된 역사의 생성을 증명한다. 미시사를 통한 역사의 잠재적 변용과 생성의 가능성은, ‘차이’나는 ‘역사’의 반복을 가능하게 하는 시간의 종합을 드러내고 있다는 점에서 보다 분명하게 확인된다. 『칼의 노래』와 『현의 노래』가 거대 담론에서 떨어져 나온 역사적 한 인물의 내면을 통해 세계를 통찰하고 있다면, 『남한산성』과 『흑산』은 ‘역사적’이지도 않은 여러 명의 인물을 통해 그들이 엮어가는 역사적 세계를 재현하고 있다. 다시 말해서 전자가 ‘이순신’과 ‘우륵’이라는 인물의 개별성을 주요하게 다루었다면, 후자는 민초들, 하다못해 다수의 노비들을 전편(全篇)에 배치함으로써 ‘선별된’ 역사의 자의성(自意性)을 직접 증명하고 있다. 요컨대, 전자의 역사소설이 개인의 내면을 집약적으로 은유하는 데 집중했다면 후자의 역사소설에서는 은유적 집약성이 약화되는 반면 보다 강력하게 정치성을 내포하고 있는 것이다. 또한 전자의 소설들이 영토화를 통해 정치가 공고해지는 바를 말했다면, 후자의 소설들은 탈영토화를 통해 정치성을 획득하게 되는 과정을 서사하고 있는 것이다. 김훈은 문학이라는 서사화 장치를 통해 시간을 구성하고 새로운 역사의 틀을 주조하려는 사람이다. 그리고 그의 소설에서 우리는 역사소설의 잠재적 정치성을 찾을 수 있다. 이를 우리는 포월(匍越)의 정치성이라 명명할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
What I would like to focus on in this article are the principles of historical transformation in Kim Hoon's historical novel. In Kim Hoon's historical novels, there are characters that deviate from the territorial state's rule and escape at the same time. The author demonstrates that such nomadic reasons imply the possibility of transforming history. This uncontrollability of the subject also attests to the creation of the recorded history. The possibility of the potential transformation and creation of history through microhistory is more evident in the fact that the ‘difference’ reveals a synthesis of time that enables the repetition of ‘history’. If the “song of the sword” and the “song of the string” are insightful in the world through the introspection of the historical personality that has fallen from the grand discourse, “Namhansanseong” and “Heuksan” are reproducing the historical world that weaves through the intricacies of multiple personalities. That is, if the former dealt with the individuality of the characters Yi Sun-shin and Uruuk, the latter would be able to evidence the self-determination of the ‘selected’ by putting forth a mass of servants and slaves. In short, if the former historical novel focuses on intensively metaphorizing the inner realm of an individual, the latter historical novel fills the metaphorical intensities with a stronger political character. In addition, if the novels of the former state that politics is promoted through territorialization, the latter novels narrate the process of acquiring politics through de-territorialization. Kim Hoon is a person who composes time and forms a new frame of history through the literary device called literature. Furthermore, in his novel, we may discover the potential politics of historical novels.
