서정주 시의 무속적 현세주의 비판

서정주의 시와 삶에 대한 이견들을 접근시켜 소통의 가능성을 마련하려 한 것이 본고의 의도이다. 이를 위해 무속의 세계관과 윤리에 관한 담론들을 적용해 그의 시의 이면을 분석하였다. 서정주의 무속 체험은 뛰어난 시를 낳은 내적 동력이었다. 이는 주로 입무 과정의 필수 요소인 신병과 접신 체험에 관련된 것이다. 신병은 몸의 고통에 환시, 환청, 환성을 포함한 분열증을 동반한다. 이러한 상태에서 떠오르는 귀령의 모습들과 분열음들을 서정주는 놀라운 진실성으로 형상화하였다. 그는 이 과정에서 현실 규범과 의식 너머로 나아가, 내면의 지옥에서 몸부림치는 인간의 형상들을 찾아내었다. 그로써 인간의 의미를 새로이 했고, 우리 시의 발상과 표현에 낯선 힘을 불어넣었다. 서정주는 점차 무속의 세계관과 윤리를 내면화하게 되었고, 그것의 역사적 기원을 찾아 상상적 편력을 수행하였다. 그 결과 그의 시는 고대 무교와 설화 및 불교 윤회와의 습합 양상을 띠게 된다. 그러나 중기 시는 관념 취향과 세속주의로 인한 시적 손실을 드러낸다. 이는 화 없는 생존을 중시하는 무속의 낮은 윤리의식에서 빚어진 것이다. 그의 영원주의는 따라서 현세주의라 할 수 있다. 현세주의는 '적응'이라는 태도와 운명론을 낳는다. 서정주의 순응주의와 부역 시편들은 근본적으로 여기에서 나온 것이라 판단된다. 서정주 시의 ‘책임 없음’과 아름다움은 분리되지 않는다. 존재의 시련에 대해 책임지려는 자세가 약화된 지점에서부터 그의 시는 자기 복제에 기운다. 다시 말해, 서정주의 시는 책임 질 때만 아름다웠다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to provide a possibility for communication by approaching the disagreements on poetry and life of Seo Jeong-ju. To this end, the backside of his poetry was analyzed by applying discourses on the worldview and ethics of shamanism. The shamanic experience of Seo Jeong-ju was the inner driving force that produced outstanding poetry. This is mainly related to the experience of initiation disease and possession, which are essential elements of the shamanistic admission process. Initiation disease is accompanied by schizophrenia, including visiual hallucinations, auditory hallucinations, and shouts in the pain of the body. In this state, the appearances of ghosts and the sound of divisions that emerged from Seo Jeong-ju were embodied with amazing truth. In this process, he went beyond the norms and consciousness of reality and found human figures struggling in inner hell. This renewed the meaning of human beings and instilled an unfamiliar power into the idea and expression of korean poetry. Seo Jeong-ju gradually internalized the worldview and ethics of shamanism, and pursued an imaginary plan in search of its historical origin. As a result, his poems merged with ancient shamanism, folklore, and Buddhist reincarnation. However, mid-term poetry reveals poetic loss due to the taste of ideas and secularity. This is a result of the shman's low moral consciousness that values fortunate survival. His eternalism can thus be called secularism. Secularism produces an attitude of 'adaptation' and a theory of fate. It is judged that the conformism and the subordinate psalms of Seo Jeong-ju are fundamentally derived from this. The ‘irresponsibility’ and beauty of Seo Jeong-ju's poems are not separated. From the point where his attitude to take responsibility for the trials of existence has weakened, his poems tend to replicate themselves. In other words, Seo Jeong-joo's poem was beautiful only when he was responsible.
