Abstract
This dissertation investigates an adaptation criticism by analyzing modes of appropriation that appeared in a filmic version of literature. Appropriation is a phenomenon that filmic version is hostile to sourcetext by offering a revised point of view, voicing the marginalized characters, or satirical commenting ideologies. Despot Yeosan(Sin, Sang-ok, 1961) is a filmic version that foregrounds the marginalized elements of Keumsam's pi(Park, Jong-hwa, 1936). King's Man(Lee, Jun-ik, 2005) is a filmic version that criticize ideologies of Lee(爾)(Kim, Tae-ung, 2000) by reinterpreting drama's political function. Two films are not filmic versions which present the alternative culture criticizing korean's cultural identity. Despot Yeonsan appropriate heroic narrative for dramatic pleasure. King's Man utilizes a freedom oriented historical film. Two films are adaptations which imitate the generic convention of popular films.
