Abstract

Jo Sehui's novel The Dwarf was the problematic work of the 1970s which threw the questions for the poor situation of workers and a desirable labor management relationships. It was transformed as a movie, TV drama, and as a theatrical play, and the reason why this novel transformed as various types meant the problems that alienated people symbolized as 'a dwarf' was still existed in the contemporary society. The Dwarf had been changed its resistant narrative to the conformistic narrative as it rewrote to the film scenario and to the drama. Compared with the original novels, the weakening of the resistant narratives in the screen texts of the future generations told us that the configuring the conflicts between the employer and the employee was still put on the taboo in the society. The cinematic imagination was restricted in the film version of the novel, and in the TV drama, though there was no censorship for it, it was deteriorated as a conformist narrative which reproduced the old-fashioned family ideologies with no social criticism. The lack of ideality and concreteness in the original novel grew out with no replacement. As long as the wrong belief that the current relations between labor and capital would be changed to the worse situations existed, if the original novel extended as the film or the drama which makes a great response to the people, the dramatization of it might be far away from the original.
