Abstract

During the period of colonization, in the topography of ‘the complete series of world literature’, ‘Joseon literature’ is either colonization literature or exotic literature. This mentality is an event and also concept that was brought about by 『the complete series of world literature』of Sinjosapan. At the moment that world literature becomes not the arithmetical sum of national literature but ‘represented’ to the ‘literature’ which represents the world, from the ‘world literature’, the division or strata of high or low class,center or margin, and inside or outside generate. In this, Joseon literature attempts to be assigned with its own position in the ‘world literature’. One is to become a legitimate part in the world literature entering the world literature on its own, and the other is to be assigned with a better position in it accepting the locality of literature. Several planning and alternations occurring in this frame are noticeable. For instance, it is to plan to arrange ‘Joseon Part’ newly into the ‘world literature’. This is limited as the alternation of the paradigm but rather results in the repetition of the paradigm, so it is still ambivalent. Another way is the alternation through ‘translation’. It is a plan to translate ‘Joseon literature’to the world’s literary circles. But unless it is considered that it is the process of culture generation including the encountering and exchange of two or more cultures, it should end up becoming self-assured behavior. If we explore the locality of Joseon literature within the instruction of ‘the complete series of world literature’, it is hard to escape from the colonization of ‘Joseon literature’. The matter is not the reconstruction of ‘colonization’or ‘exoticness’ itself but the alternation of the paradigm to dismantle or exceed the frame of ‘the complete series of world literature.
