Abstract
This study attempted to explore the possibility of East Asian reconciliation and peace education beyond the politics of memory, which is one of the most conflicting narratives in Korean and Japanese history. To this end, the memories of women who were alienated from the grand narrative of the “Comfort women” by the Japanese military and the Japanese “wife” in Korea were brought to the content of education. In addition, an educational method called transnational class cooperation was attempted in which Korean and Japanese teachers and students exchanged class plans and experiences with each other. Students who have learned the memories of marginalized others, which were not known from the official memory of the country, understand that history is characterized by exclusion and interpretation. In addition, the geopolitics of emotion changes through the appearance of students from other countries who sympathize with our painful memories. A study shows a meaningful direction for the possibility of reconciliation and peace education in East Asia beyond the politics of memory.
