Abstract

This paper examines the intentions and historical significance of Yamada Bimyo’s “spacing.” The subtleties were written at intervals even when one word or phrase was written in units of syllables, and they tried to imitate Western poetry to improve the effect of reading.A concrete example of this practice is a collection of youth songs. It is meaningful that the delicate poem was an ‘attempt’ and it can be said that his failure was due to his followers, but it can be admitted that the Bimyo ‘attempt’ was not always in vain. In other words, the Bimyo “spacing” Western style imitation challenge is meaningful because it leads to a Houmey as a challenge. However, it cannot be denied that it has not been widely handed down to other poets, and “spacing” can be pointed out as a minority. However, while Bimyo and Houmey did not clearly see the effect, Nakahara Tyuya was positioned as a poet and heir to spacing, who succeeded with the intention of focusing on vision and changing the tempo of readers.
