Abstract

This study delves into the works of Kim Chung-Gyul and Kim Bo-Young as a practice aimed at minimizing the dominance of humanity within a posthumanist framework. Various intellectual discourses are unfolding with posthumanism as a central theme in response to the escalating crisis of the Anthropocene. However, despite posthumanism being fundamentally concerned with the world after humans, the humanities as a whole rarely envision a world in which humanity’s status is diminished or has disappeared. Even in narratives explore symbiosis through ontological transformation or envision alternative societies enabled by science and technology, without addressing the fundamental issue of excessive human influence—the root cause of the Anthropocene crisis. This shortfall is mirrored in the alternative theories underpinning such fictional imaginations. paradoxically, Anthropocene scenarios have critiqued anthropocentrism while simultaneously presupposing humanity’s preservation as a constant. This article argues that this paradox stems from residual human exceptionalism within posthumanist thought. in this context, this study critically examines the anthropocentric limitations inherent in existing alternative theories and fiction. and by exploring the works of two novels of a world devoid of humans, this study provide an opportunity to seeks to revisit humanity’s position within the posthumanism.
