Abstract

The study tone of the Korean modern history that took up Sino-Japanese War emphasizes aggression characteristics and the barbaric act of the emperor on a day throughout. But the study tone in Japan is different from this. In other words, much human life is killed and wounded in this war and the Queen of Korea was killed by a Japanese. Nevertheless Japan ignores the fact that they invaded Korea and they lift international dynamics relations and insist on legitimacy of the war. Besides it is a fact that such recognition is consistent so far from modern times and is insisted. Why is this? I want to consider this problem through outlook on Korea recognition of the Japanese public for the Sino-Japanese War period. Therefore, I want to attention to is two essays of Lafcadio Hearn(1850-1904). Hearn wrote essays as "A Wish Fulfilled" and "after the war" in 1895. He wrote about his pupil matured into a soldier by the militaristic education of Japanese Emperor system. The boy says that it is the heart's desire to die for the Emperor at the time of Sino-Japanese War and he was killed in war. This suggests what a result of the militaristic education of Japan in those days. The Japanese newspaper continued reporting that this war was the chance when did not have two when Japan could mature into the large country in the Sino-Japanese War period. Meiji Tenno ordered that sacrifice one's life for light and the authority of the empire for declaration of war. Under such situation, the public media which conveyed the war situation overflowed in Japan. The color woodblock print which painters exaggerated a state of the war and drew was popular with people. Other than drama, a diorama, an automatic puppet play, the child toy which featured the theme of Sino-Japanese War, various publications in admiration of war were popular. To Japanese public, this war was like the festival. The people did not have a heart to sympathize with for dead Korea and the Chinese people in war. Japanese newspapers did not have the antiwar tone either. Japan thought only that the Emperor Meiji and the nation won in war all in one body in Sino-Japanese War. It was the same as denying the whole Meiji Japan that people insisted on the war. In such an atmosphere, I think that Japanese frigidity to never feel crime awareness was born for the barbaric act to kill to a Korean queen.
