초등학교 환경교육에 대한 지역별 교사의식 비교 분석

본 연구는 최근 환경교육에 대한 초등교사의 지역별 의식 차이를 알아보기 위해 서울과 수도권 및 지방에 소재하고 있는 초등학교에 재직 중인 교사 268명을 대상으로 조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 지역 간의 교사들의 환경교육에 대한 의식은 유사한 경향을 보이고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 환경교육의 필요성에 대한 교사의 의식은 매우 높게 나타났으며, 감성능력 향상은 환경교육의 교육적 효과로서 가장 기대되는 항목으로 나타났다. 가장 적합한 환경교육의 방식으로는 야외에서의 활동 놀이 프로그램이 적합하며, 자연환경 및 다양한 식물을 체험 할 수 있는 외부 장소를 선호하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 자연환경교육의 주요 내용으로는 ‘생태계’, ‘자연보호(재해)’, ‘동/식물’ 등이며, 녹색산업과 관련된 주요 교육 주제로서는 ‘친환경 소비생활’, ‘미래생활과 관련된 대체 에너지 문제’, ‘환경폐기물 처리 및 재생’ 등으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 토대로 초등학교에 있어서의 환경교육에 대한 방향은 다음과 같다. 학교 재량시간을 적극 활용하고 환경교육은 체험 중심으로 실시하며 위를 위해 적절한 외부 장소의 선택과 외부 환경교육 전문가 및 전문기관의 적극적인 활용이 요구 된다. 환경교육의 내용에 있어서 자연환경과 녹색성장은 매우 중요한 주제가 되고 있다. 이에 대한 대응으로서는 환경파괴 및 온난화와 대체에너지 문제, 자연보호와 소비생활 및 자원의 과소비, 자연환경 오염과 폐기물 문제 등과 같이 자연환경과 녹색성장을 연계하여 이해하도록 교육 할 필요도 있다. 더불어 환경교육은 아동의 발달단계를 고려하여 연령 단계별로 특성화되어 있으면서도 유기적인 연계성을 지니도록 이루어져야 할 것으로 사료된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine regional differences of awareness on the environmental education in relation to green growth. A total of 286 teachers currently teaching at elementary schools in the Seoul metropolitan area and in rural areas were surveyed. The results revealed that views on environmental education were similar in all regions, with a strong belief in the necessity of environmental education. In particular, an enhanced emotional competency towards the environment was an expected outcome of environmental education. Teachers chose outdoor play activities as the most appropriate methods of environmental education, the aim being to allow students to experience natural environments and a diversity of plants. The main subject areas of environmental education included eco-systems, nature protection (from disasters), and animals and plants. The main subject areas related to green growth were environmentally friendly consumption, renewable energy, and the disposal and recycling of environment waste. The recommended components of elementary school environmental education are as follows: sufficiently utilize discretionary school hours, provide experience oriented programs, choose appropriate outdoor locations, and actively use outside experts and institutions. Since the natural environment and green growth have become crucial subjects in environmental education, they should be associated with other environmental issues, such as environmental destruction, global warming, renewable energy, nature protection, consumption, overuse of resources, pollution, and the disposal of waste. Environmental education should also take into consideration the age and developmental stage of students for optimal environmental education.
