초록

This article examines the newspaper headlines of Brexit related articles and editorials in two British newspapers, the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian, in terms of transitivity and projection in Systemic Functional Grammar. The focus is put on how Brexit is represented in the propositions where the English proper noun Brexit is used as a participant of the clause. The data were collected during the four months before the Brexit referendum when the media reported the issue of Brexit ever more frequently than before. The result shows that the relational process is the most frequently used one, and material process is the second choice of transitivity in both newspapers; however, Brexit is less negatively represented in the Daily Telegraph than the Guardian. In addition, the propositions tend to be projected by the voice of the people who were more or less related to the British economy. This is the evidence that the newspapers were much more focusing on the economic issues than other aspects of Brexit such as the sovereignty of the UK or the influx of asylum seekers.

Abstract
