Abstract
This study estimated the economic value of “Species Diversity” in terms of biodiversity among the fundamental Support service items in Jirisan National Park. The research method was to conduct an online survey, by sampling 554 men and women over the age of 19, from November 19, 2018 to December 5, 2018. The survey design evaluated the economic value of species diversity, after calculating the marginal willingness to pay by species for one species living in Jirisan National Park using the Choice Experiments (CE). In order to explain the species diversity, the questionnaire configuration divided the species into indigenous species(except for an endangered species), endangered species, alien species, and prior to presenting questions for evaluating the value of the species diversity in the survey, by providing data on the species diversity, the respondents were asked to increase their understanding of the species diversity. As a result of the study, the annual contributions per household willing to pay for the preservation of one species of indigenous species in Jirisan National Park were analyzed to be 1.04 won, per household willing to pay for the preservation of one species of endangered species to be 144.48 won, and per household willing to pay for the preservation of one species of alien species to be -112.61 won. Because, in the case of foreign species, unlike the indigenous and endangered species, it has a significance not in preservation, but in eradication, it is believed that the marginal value was negative (–). If this is applied at the national total marginal value by species, the economic value of one indigenous species was analyzed to be 20 million won, the value of one endangered species was 2.914 billion won, and the value of one alien species was -22.71 billion won. Finally, the economic value of the species diversity in Jirisan National Park derived by the Choice Experiments (CE) was estimated at 114.921 billion won. At a time when there are increased interest in preservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of biological resources around the world, the designation of protected areas as a repository of biodiversity, and the restoration and the spread of endangered species, etc., by estimating the economic value of natural resources, the results of this study are expected to be used as data to prove the economic validity for preservation of natural assets and to establish effective management policies.
