본 연구는 2000년~2011년의 12년간 4대 신문사의 사설에서 사용하는 단어들의 증감을 통계적 방법을 이용하여 분석하여 살펴봄으로써 같은 기간 동안의 사회적 관심의 변화를 살펴보았다. 이 연구는 언어 변화의 포착을 통하여 사회문화적 (관심의) 변화를 좀 더 객관적으로 살펴보는 데 기여하는 방법이 적절함을 보였다는 의의가 있다.
Abstract
Newspaper editorials are a type of writings thatexpress the authors' (newspaper companies') opinions on current socialissues in a logical manner. They cover various issues, including politics,economy, social affairs, and culture. Their main purpose is to persuadereaders to change their minds according to the author's point of view. We analyzed editorial in the Trends 21 Corpus, i.e. texts of four majorKorean newspapers(Chosun, Dong-a, Choong-ang, and Hankyoreh) inthe years of 2000-2011. In the analyses, we use statistical method ofMann-Kendall Analysis. Among increasing nouns, we have found alot of the proper names denoting politicians. Thus, we can see thatthe editorials are sensitive to politicians' behaviors. In the analysis ofdecreasing nouns we found that the negative political issues have beensignificantly reduced such as “seize power, political strife, the ColdWar”. By analysing the trends of the use of nouns in the editorialsof 2000-2011, we can observe social changes in the same period.
