Abstract
This study aimed to explore meditation interventions to enhance feelings of nature connection by analyzing the associations between nature connection, mindfulness and self-compassion, and perceived stress, as well as perceptions and needs for forest-based meditation applications. To this end, we conducted an online survey using a snowball sampling method among field experts who are key informants of forest therapy, and analyzed a total of 103 responses. First, nature connectedness was significantly positively correlated with mindfulness (r=.457, p<.001) and self-compassion(r=.329, p<.001), and negatively correlated with perceived stress(r=.-233, p<.01). There were significant differences in mindfulness(F=11.614, p<0.001), self-compassion(F=4.399, p<0.15), and stress perception (F=5.050, p<0.008) between groups based on differences in nature connectedness. Second, the experts recognized the importance of the impact of meditation intervention on the connection with nature and the effectiveness of the program. The subjective understanding of forest-based meditation was higher than normal, and the ease of meditation guidance was lower than normal. The rate of meditation intervention in the program was less than 20%, and mindfulness was used the most. Third, spaces with quiet and comfortable characteristics, such as places with five sensory stimuli, views, and trees, and activities such as sensory activation, walking, and interaction were suggested to promote a sense of connection to nature. It is hoped that the basic data on meditation interventions derived from this study will be helpful in the development process of forest therapy programs.
