초록
The prerequisite for efficient learning through textbooks is the connectivity between textbooks. The current study aims to investigate the linguistic connectivity between middle school social studies 1 and 2 textbooks. The textbooks were analyzed on 20 surface-level and deep-level linguistic features, via Auto-Kohesion, a Korean multidimensional text analysis tool. The analyses revealed that the social studies 1 textbook consistently displayed a higher linguistic complexity than the social studies 2 for all the measures which produced significant differences between the textbooks, except for pronoun measures. The current findings indicate that the linguistic connectivity between school social studies textbooks is not properly established; this suggests the possibility that learning efficiency through textbooks can be reduced. Discussions and implications for the current findings are also presented.
