Abstract
Sharing Chinese characters made possible the cultural exchange between Korean diplomatic delegates and Japanese Sinologists during the Edo period. The intellectuals of both countries interchanged the Chinese poems that they made when the delegations came to Japan. This paper focuses on how they communicated with each other by analyzing Shisen, the pieces of paper on which they wrote out their Chinese poems. Specifically, by reading Japanese poems with Mt. Fuji as their theme the Korean delegates entered into the Japanese feelings and knew their culture. On the other hand, the Japanese scholars understood the Korean feelings by recognizing a comparison of Mt. Fuji to Mt. Kongo〔金剛山〕. These materials of Shisen suggest the actual peaceful and even cheerful atmosphere that they created.
