Abstract
This study aims to assess social support for Korean students in Japan, particularly in terms of its influence on their cultural adaptation stress and the mediating effects of language ability. In this study, 230 Korean students in Japan were surveyed, and the SPSS V.23 Statistical Package Program was employed for data analysis. Intermsofstatisticalmethodology, technical statistical analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed. The main findings are as follows. 1) Greater social support of international students leads to lower level of stress in relation to cultural adaptation. 2) Language ability has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between social support and cultural adaptation stress. This study also describes the implications of these results regarding the political and practical need to support international students’ adaptation to Japanese society and to develop their ability, in the long term, to serve as a bridge between two nations after graduation.
