초록

Aging process is rapidly developing in recent years. The issues of the elderly travel are related to several social dimensions of economic and social exclusion and transit accessibility. The existing research on the elderly travel has focused on either the macro-level issues of the elderly travel or the micro-level characteristics of the automobile-oriented elderly travel in the Western society. This research aims at analysing the Korean elderly travel in Seoul at the micro-level by using descriptive statistics and regression models. A number of cross-sectional travel characteristics were distinguished between socio-demographic sub-populations of the elderly. The leisure trip frequency is very high and work trip is very low. The mode used is dominated by foot across trip purposes. Most activities are done at home and near home. Distant travel is for some medical and family visit, but mostly limited for other trip purposes. Older age, lower education level, longer distance from home to the nearest bus stop, smaller living expenses and higher level of physical disability generally discourage the elderly travel behavior. The analysis results suggest important implications for urban public transport policy considering the elderly population.

The analysis results suggest important implications for urban public transport policy considering the elderly population.
